Saturday, marked the launch of the 1st Annual Lake Carolina Wine Glass 10k & Kid’s 1-Mile races. This event was held as a precursor to the Lake Carolina Wine & Food Festival.
In the kid’s 1-miler, 7-year old Keegan Covington brought home the gold with the overall first place finish in a time of 7:22.
In the 10k, Jeffrey Schwarz smoked the hilly Lake Carolina hilly course in a time of 41:17 to take the overall win. Second place overall went to Laura Stepp with a time of 41:48. This time qualifies Laura to apply to run in the Elite Group at next year’s Cooper River Bridge Run.
This is the only race in town to provide commemorative wine glasses and pint glasses as awards.
The youngest competitor was 10-year old Gwen Berardinelli, with a time of 57:06. This shows the level of competition coming up the ranks.
The race raised a total of $900 for the Children’s Charities of the Midlands and the Velocity Distance Project Jr. Olympic Developmental Running Program. Race participants enjoyed the post-race refreshments and raffle prizes which included tickets to the Wine & Food Festival and gift certificates for Road ID bracelets.
